Middle of the week update-update

Another quick tour of Sage Words Tarot

Hi everyone!

First and foremost, as always, thank you so much for reading Sage Sips blog on Sage Words Tarot.

As I sit here sipping a real world cup of tea and as my coffee cold brews for morning I want to say hello, say thanks, and give you all a quick tour around the website now that I’m taking a break from changing and tinkering. Things will stay like this for the rest of summer at the very least.

Email Tarot readings are OPEN all summer! You can order a private Tarot reading by email anytime, 24/7, no appointment needed. It’s still just me doing this, and I live in the US eastern time zone, so it may take a hot minute to get your reading to you if you order nights, weekends or US holidays. Most of the time I get a reading to you inside of 24 hours, but it can take longer some days. I’ll be in touch whenever you order and give you my best estimate about when I can get the write up to you.

Ask Me Anything is OPEN. Just like the name of the page says (tab at the top on laptop, scroll down on mobile). You ask. I’ll answer in one form or another, maybe a Tarot reading, probably in the blog. You have my promise that no identifying information will ever be used in a blog post. If a post is inspired by and actual question, I change and redact it so that it could be a question from anybody that can help everyone.

The “reading room” tab has two pages, “frens and fam” is a list of links to people I know and trust around the web. Some of it is Tarot related, other not, but they are all good folks, real people in the real world that I trust. The reading list is just exactly that – my favorite reads over the past 30 or so years.

In-person Tarot readings and online readings are available with appointment and prepayment with the secure PayPal invoice that I’ll send to you along with the appointment confirmation.

Sage Sips membership on ko-fi get exclusive content, discount email readings, and free one card readings (one per month please) all for $5 / month. The exclusive content without the discount readings is available for $3/month through this blog and the Substack newsletter.

How to Find a Psychic You Can Trust is an excerpt from the free ebook “TaoCraft Portfolio” available in the ko-fi shop along with my other ebooks.

Sage Sips blog you know. Mondays have a three card energy path Tarot reading for the collective, general audience energies. Wednesday (including tomorrow) has “Learn With Me” as I explore other oracles or who knows what. These are free for the summer of ’23 , but may move to paid subscription this fall. Right now we are exploring the Publishing Goblin’s Oracle Dice, used with the permission of the oracle’s creator Seven Dane Asmund of Publishing Goblin LLC

Friday’s on the blog are my version of “Weekend Update” – at least until I can come up with a better title. There we’ll revisit the week’s energy path and see how it is – or isn’t – unfolding.

Other posts, cards, quotes and assorted other topics will post randomly as time and inspiration allows.

Thank you all.

I’m grateful for your support. The free Tarot content on Sage Words Tarot and Sage Sips blog / newsletter is fueled by your private reading purchases, memberships, and virtual coffees. Your likes, subs, free blog follows, and social media shares are always greatly appreciated!

Energy Week Ahead: Flow, Recharge, Think

Pathway Tarot reading for the week ahead

I’ve got adulting to do.

I’m not saying Tarot isn’t adulting. Learning, questioning, applying, doing all we can to be a better person; that’s actually the adultiest of adulting we can do.

I’m talking oil changes, errands and helping family kind of adulting. Tomorrow is shaping up to be a busy day, so here is your energy look at the week ahead a little early. I plan on taking this batch of advice myself, as I often do.

If these posts ever seem wrong or off or not for you….you can do like I do. Either draw a different batch of cards for yourself to get a more targeted individual read. If you aren’t the DIY type, no worries. Email Tarot is always open and I’m happy to help. Even when it’s busy, I can carve out time to pay attention to an email reading. It’s my strength. Just like our current energy card.

The fading energy card is six of pentacles.

Sometimes the six is about literal generosity, giving and sharing money or other tangible resources. Sometimes it talks about the intangible, speaking of a generous nature or a generosity of spirit. Today, the card brings in elements of both, reminding us give and take, ebb and flow. It feels like a reminder that we get out of life what we put into it. That in turn brings to mind the 90s song “Get What You Give” by the New Radicals.

Physical or philosophical, now is the time to find your flow before attention needs to shift to other things.

The other thing our attention my shift toward very soon, if it hasn’t already, is Strength. Just like the major arcana Death card always talks about change and not literal death, the Strength card always talks about strength of character and fortitude. This feels very simple and straightforward. Tap into your inner strength, endurance, and courage now while you can.

@bobthewritingcat is one of my favorite Instagram accounts. Bob the cat, through the opposable thumbs and internet access of his human Jenny Graves, often tells us to “gird our loins” against the inevitable approach of yet another Monday. That is the feeling here. The Strength card is like that today: gird your loins, spool up your best people skills, batten down any loose hatches, there might be a minor kerfuffle on the horizon.

The Growing energy is the three of swords. From the decks that I’ve seen, it is always a dire looking card. Like every other card, it has different shades and threads of meaning. The word “petty” is really stepping forward today, along with “quintessential ‘karen'” Be on the lookout for inane squabbles and back-stabby sort of pettiness “from all the usual sources” It might work your last nerve, but that’s where the strength and flow from earlier can come in handy. If you can see the petty squabbles as just that, and deal with the week from a place of strength and flow and calm, it will be easier to get through this particular burp in the energy flow. Girded loins will prevent frayed nerves if you’ll permit that really odd way of saying it.

Overall the feel of the week right now isn’t bad or foreboding as much as just plain weird and potentially annoying.

Assuming the adulting goes to plan (HA!) next up is Wednesday’s “Learn With Me” now that we have picked 7 random dice to learn with, we’ll get a little more meta with it and look at the general meaning of each individual die and it’s “Lord Card” which gives each one of the dice it’s own subject or realm, akin to the arcana and suit meanings in Tarot. In this series of posts, I explore the Publishing Goblin’s Oracle Dice and learn to use it in the same methodical way I taught myself to read Tarot back in the day and over the years since. The process gives you a small behind the scenes peek into the intuition development process.

Thank you for reading! This free Tarot content is fueled by your support through private Tarot readings, memberships, paid subscriptions, and ko-fi coffee. Likes, blog follows, and social media shares are always much appreciated.

See you at the next sip!

Weekend Update: Connect and Do/

Update from the last Energy Path Tarot reading

Email readings are OPEN. You can order 24/7, no appointment needed. June 23 – 27 might experience some delivery delays. I’ll be in touch with estimated delivery times when you order.

Since you can’t copyright titles, I’m using this one. Consider it an homage to one of my favorite Saturday Night live segments. I would never claim to be as good as theirs, but in the spirit of SNL’s update, I do intend to keep these Friday or Saturday posts light and short. I’m enjoying the end of week check in with Monday’s pathway reading. Instead of focusing on any particular card, I thought it might be fun to take a peek back at the whole layout to see how it is unfolding, if it is unfolding or if it has totally veered off course.

No veering this week.

The contemplative energy around the four of swords has dropped off the radar, but the two of swords and four of pentacles are very much intact. The Pentacles are the brighter of the two energies. The two of swords still is very much connected to the “mystical unity” shade of meaning we talked about during Monday’s reading.

Now is the time for a practical, down to earth point of view and frame of mind. Practical, budget friendly actions. Take the stairs to save electricity level of things. It doesn’t feel like a weekend to spurge or be overly restful. It feels like a good time to invest action into things that will conserve money and resources later. Kind of like making lunches for the week that will save you time and money later. Very much a mow the lawn, catch up the laundry kind of vibe right now.

I don’t mean to sound like your mother, but do stuff now so you can enjoy the July 4th holiday or whatever else you have planned in the near future.

That being said – enjoy the weekend in spite of any chores that need attention!

Next up – Energy Path reading for the week of June 26-July 3 (should post Monday afternoon)

See you at the next sip!

Give As You Claim

Six of Pentacles and quote from freethinker Rober Ingersoll

Quote via goodreads.com

Robert Ingersoll was a nineteenth century writer, speaker and lawyer famous at that time as an agnostic and freethought advocate.

The Six of Pentacles is about the flow of abundance and generosity. It often speaks about generosity of spirit as much as it talks about money or physical things.

Contemplate, Connect, Do

Please think of me if you ever want a private Tarot reading. Sage Sips’ free Tarot content is fueled by private readings, memberships, and coffee (real and virtual.) Any likes, blog follows, social media follows, shares, or comments you can spare all help too! Thanks!

Well, this is interesting.

I’ve been doing these weekly readings for what, a couple of months now? I’d hoped this would happen, but this is the first time that a previous “growing energy” has moved through to be a “fading energy” card. That process alone is giving the Four of Swords special attention. It may be “fading” but honestly it feels more like “getting ready to maybe fade” The Four of Swords is still very much a prominent energy today, even if it isn’t the ONLY energy today by any means.

I’ll claim it. It’s a mood.

The Four of Swords is a big energy for me right now. It was a long week at the day job and I’m glad for the holiday today. More on that later, probably on Sage’s Other Words. I’m feeling my introverted, INTP aesthetic, cyberpunk, goth-ish side for some reason. Maybe pure rebellion to all of the sunny, hot weather we’ve had lately. I dunno.

Wherever the Four of Swords is falling into your personal energy arc – growing, strongly present, fading away, or maybe not there at all – it feels like it is asking for our attention just by virtue of showing up two weeks in a row from two different decks. This week I used the public domain Waite Smith, last week I used the Alleyman’s Tarot. The four of swords look almost opposite in the two decks, but both bark up the same tree: mind, intellect, thinking, introspection, all of the rest and abide with your thoughts and feelings sort of thing. Last week the card was asking us to engage with deep thoughts, to contemplate, to contemplate contemplation if you want to get really meta about it.

This week it is more of a think things through before you act kind of vibe. The word “ABIDE” is coming to mind here. Think the thoughts and feel the feels for a little bit before jumping into action.

The two of swords typically means indecision, being of two minds about something. I’ve always resonated with another, less known, interpretation from Diane Morgan’s excellent Tarot book Magical Tarot, Mystical Tao. No mystery why that is my favorite Tarot read ever, since it lands square in the middle of my personal wheelhouse, that liminal, Venn diagram overlap between western witchy Tarot and exoteric Taoism (meaning I follow the spiritual philosophy, not the religion)

Her interpretation is one of spiritual connection to the cosmos. The interconnectedness of everything. Oneness. Or as she put it “mystical unity” found in life. Think of the universality of the energy and the connection to the spirit and energy we talk about in Tarot. I think that is where the Two of Swords is pointing today. That connection to everything, that sense of cosmos, is a very internal, subjective, contemplative thing. If the two of swords in “mystic unity” mode is the current energy, it makes sense that the Four of Swords still seems strong because the two energies are closely related and it makes sense that the two cards would work in tandem to pull our attention to our internal world.

But in typical squirrel rave, strip your gears, 90 degree Tron-turn fashion, life switches from strongly internal to strongly external. We drop the airy, mental, esoteric swords cards right into the action side of swords and the earth element physical realm pentacles. Swords can also be associated with action (like the knight, for example) so the swords are also acting as a bridge from internal focus to real-world focus.

Even though they are nearly opposites, we begin and end with fours. I’ll let you figure out the numerology of that if numerology resonates with you. My instinct is to give a shoutout to all the April birthdays out there. A diamond ring and a sparkly, rainbow-y crystal suncatcher sort of crystal window decoration comes to mind here.

With the Four of Pentacles I get “eco-warrior” “ruthless conservation” but not on a political level…it feels very personal level. I connect it with looming potential drought. Save water. Water is life. Mind your budget and your resources. Instead of hunkering down to survive a harsh winter it feels like being disciplined in order to survive a harsh summer. Dune, both the book and movie, and the discipline of the Freman people need to survive in the desert comes to mind here. If you haven’t read the books, they are classic science fiction. I totally recommend them for a satisfying pool or beach read this summer.

But that’s the vibe on the horizon as it stands now. Mind your budget, conserve water and energy. Hopefully this is a good sign that the collective is gearing up for Plastic Free July both the Australian non-profit AND the just plain concept of reducing your single use plastics. I have it on good authority, that the blog How to Holistic will be talking more about that sort of thing in the near future.

Long story short: contemplate, connect, do

Thanks so much for reading! Next up, more oracle dice on Wednesday if all goes to plan.

See you at the next sip!

Calling all audiophiles

I think I’ve found a new text to speech alternative.

I get it. Audio is a good thing. I love to listen to music and live with a family of musicians, so I appreciate the whole audiophile sound quality thing. It is helpful when words make sounds at all. Some folks just learn and retain information better from the spoken word. Some people have vision issues and rely on spoken word media. Some people just like to listen while they drive or do other things (that’s me – I listen to podcasts while I knit.) There are any number of reasons why it is a good idea to have an audio echo of this blog.

I get it about listening to spoken word content.

On the other hand, creating spoken word content isn’t my strong suit. Put me in front of a keyboard and I’ll write anything you want and imagine I’m giving Shakespeare a run for the money in the process. Put me in front of a microphone to speak and I’ll sound like drunk Yoda at best.

Spotify pooched the old podcast (with the Clairvoyant Confessional episodes) in the switch from Anchor Fm to Spotify for Podcasters and of course things are weirder still as WordPress integration ends. I’m closing the old feed.

If you are an audio person, please be sure to follow the “Sage Sips” feed that matches the free posts here, on ko-fi and on substack.

Right now, the podcast will consist of the Monday week-ahead pathway Tarot readings, but that can change – so this is your chance to influence what content goes into the podcast. Let me know in the comments below what else you want in the podcast and I’ll see what I can do.

Sorry this popped up just when I thought everything was consistent and settled. Ah well, if it’s not one thing it’s another. Life is nothing if not change.

See you tomorrow for the Path reading for the week of May 8-14!

Mid-card Mid-week: Flame On

Second look at this week’s “current energy” card

1909 RWS Tarot, public domain

It’s Wednesday! Let’s revisit the middle card (current energy) from our look-ahead reading from Monday and see how the energy is unfolding for this week.

It’s an interesting phenomenon in professional Tarot reading.

Sometimes the cards will piggyback a message or energy for me along with the collective message for the blog or the specific message for a private client. Sometimes it feels sort of disconnected, like being the pizza delivery person with no connection to the party going on inside the house.

Today it’s a little bit of both.

Week Ahead: Modern Art!

Three card Pathway reading for the week ahead. Sage Sips is Tarot contemplation in the time it takes to sip from your coffee

Modern art!

Matt Smith was so excellent as the Doctor, when he left and Peter Capaldi came into the role, I wasn’t sure what to think, as is the case for most Doctor Who fans when regeneration time comes around. Then they showed the old “Fires of Pompeii” episode where Capaldi had previously played the role of Caecilius the marble merchant during David Tennant’s time as the Doctor. When toga-clad Capaldi raised his arms in a BEHOLD gesture and declared the Tardis to be “MODERN ART!” I’m like ok, ok…he can be the Doctor now.

If Tom Baker was the Doctor you wanted to be your dad, and Tennant and Smith were the Doctors you wanted to be your very best friend, then Capaldi was the Doctor I wanted to BE.

Why is my Whovian fan-girl side bringing up this obscure Doctor Who reference? Because Caecilius’ enthusiasm is exactly the vibe for this week’s reading, except maybe turned up to volume 11.

This is the week for passionate artists and creatives. It’s giving me itchy knitting fingers.

The fading energy card feels like early week energy more than anything that is fading, really. There is a ‘ get while the getting is good’ vibe about it. If you are feeling inspired, act sooner rather than later. This is the knight of cups after all. Knight cards are all about action. Cups are emotions. Grab the chance to express yourself and how you feel as soon as the opportunity presents itself. Don’t wait to appreciate your modern art!

The current energy card, which we will revisit later this week with paid subscribers, is the Ace of Swords. Sword cards are more precise and intellectual than cups, but they too can hint at action. Swords are connected to the classic element air, and the single upright sword on the ace card has a sweeping, lifting, rising energy. The word INSPIRATION comes strongly to mind here. If you have been in a creative slump, or feeling uninspired in any context, keep your eyes open and be ready, that may turn around soon. Inspiration is on the way, it seems.

For those of us who have had to focus on practical, mundane day-job energies this past weekend, the ace feels more like getting a second wind, a revitalization rather than some sort of beginning inspiration. Which energy carries the week for you depends on where you are starting out today (Merry Monday everyone!) If you are coming into the week fresh after the weekend, then fresh starts ahead. If, like me, you have been in practical, time-to-make-the-donuts mode, hang in there. A fresh gust of wind beneath your wings is on the way.

The Chariot from the major arcana is the growing energy. This also gives the impression of growing energy and movement through the week as a whole. I get the mental image of that Japanese painting The Great Wave. That’s the nature of the Chariot card, but we are also moving from minor arcana into major arcana energy. Heads up, pay attention, stay on target. The energy this week is on the upswing, a growing wave that hasn’t crested yet. Growing energy and faster movement also needs more focus and attention. Early week may be the time for daydreams and wandering minds that make the initial creative connections, but later in the week comes the time to execute. Later on, as the energy grows, we will need focus and attention to make those misty drifting creative ideas into a more tangible reality.

There is absolutely no logical reason why, but clear quartz points and herkimer diamonds come to mind too. Lore around clear quartz is that it is an energy amplifier. Quartz points, especially tourmalated quartz (clear with small spiky inclusions of black tourmaline) are thought to support guidance (the spikes and points symbolize something ‘pointing the way’ for us.)

The keys for the week are self expression, creativity, art, increasing energy, increasing need for focus and attention.

So go, make life into your own work of modern art.

And if you like what you see in these general audience collective energy readings, I hope you’ll consider a private reading. I’ve really been vibing with email readings lately. No ‘bots here. Just me, my deck, and my laptop creating something unique and special, attuned to you individually plus a photo of your real world cards. We both can have a high level of confidence in email readings because let’s face it, there is no room for shenanigans in email Tarot. I can’t read your body language or ask leading questions – suspect cold readings or stage mentalism just isn’t possible this way. On my side, not only do I get to stay in my comfy work from home clothes and sip all the coffee I want, it’s easier mental work. I don’t have to be on guard for some sort of ego trip from unconsciously slipping into a body language leading question kind of cold reading. Doing email readings keeps you honest. It’s just us and intuition / energy / spirit, no buffer or go between or shady stuff for either of us.

I hope you enjoyed the free for all posts last week. Please consider joining the Tarot Table on Ko-fi or subscribing to Sage Sips on Substack to get the deeper dive Tarot long reads and Q&A posts that are on the way.

Thanks again for reading. I appreciate you.

See you at the next sip!

If Einstein said it…

Sage’s Short Sip is a Tarot contemplation for your day in the time it takes to sip from your coffee

If Einstein said it…then it must be true, right? I don’t know if the attribution is correct, but if it is a feel validated. We’ve been getting this exact kind of message from the Two of Pentacles for ages.

That sort of dynamic equilibrium – be it molecules across a permeable membrane, a clown on a unicycle, or an Austrian physicist on a bicycle, movement is a part of balance just like change is part of life.
