Listen to your intuition even if it is telling you something uncomfortable

Left: That Which Lies Beneath. Sometimes what we need to know is so suppressed, so uncomfortable, so disturbing that we can’t fully admit it to ourselves. In those times, our instincts may manifest simply as a vague sense of “not right” “just off” “not myself” or something just beyond words. Those messages are as deserving as any other – perhaps more so. In these times the why behind the vague feeling is more important than ever. This card is a loud call to understand your motives and the reason WHY you feel and act as you do.

Right: The Alleyman. We are the artists collective of humanity. We are all connected in our shared human-being-ness and our shared experience of life on planet Earth in the early 21st century. There is, there can be, connections that are fleeting but significant. The moment of niceness you feel when a stranger holds a door, or a smile passing on the sidewalk, a grocery clerk who is helpful and friendly, a barrista joking with customers, anything. If that collective of kindness, those fleeting moments are called “the alleyman” we can both be helped by The Alleyman and we can BE the Alleyman. We are the Alleyfolk, the collective of kindness and intuitive wisdom. Look for the Alleyman. Be the Alleyman for someone who you might never know.

This concept is exactly why I’m such a fan of The Alleyman’s Tarot and the Alleyway oracle deck used here. Always grateful to Seven Dane Asmund, author, creator and publisher, for permission to use these decks. Weekend Oracle 1 August 25

Weekend Oracle isn’t just for weekends because it doesn’t predict any period of time. Like the “week ahead” readings, it is just a read or your energy environment for the next few days. Weekends tend to be 2 or 3 days, so think of this as being the energy you will be dealing with or the energetic opportunity that is most dominant for the next 2-3 days.

They tend to have an advice tone: “This is your best chance to…” or “Now is a great time to….” sort of feeling. Think of it as a read of what the energy around you will support the best right now.

Drawn into the Dark Corners of the World: The card name is pretty much the reading. No one is perfect. No one is complete without their imperfections. Knowing and accepting your shadow side can give a sense of peace and contentment that can be found no other way.

Many traditions teach this idea around the world. In Japan, the philosophy and aesthetic of wabi sabi tells of the beauty in imperfection. The psychology of Carl Jung speaks of our shadow, the unconscious mind. Magickal and pagan traditions actively face this kind of shadow work as well.

This card is a call to look for what you typically do not see. Learn from where and how you give your precious attention. Look for, listen to, and learn from the dark corners. Be open with all due discernment to the places you wouldn’t ordinarily expect to find wisdom. You might be surprised at the gifts such places give.

The Pouring Cup

FOUR OF CUPS (reversed): Upright, this is a card of blocked or complicated communication and unrequited emotions. Reversed, this lets us know that this is a good energy environment to express yourself. Let the emotions flow, let your heart lead the way. Allow the natural flow of things to bring the things you most need to you.

Wayne Dyer describes this as an allowing sort of mindset. The energy, emotion and prosperity of the universe is always flowing. Often it is a matter of allowing ourselves to be a part of it.

I ‘hear’ “blessings flow” which is odd considering how twitchy my exvangelical self gets around religious language. I suspect this abundant, prosperous, joyful sort of energy is what was meant with the phrase “my cup runneth over” Cups can run out, or the pouring withheld (as with the upright sense of the card. Personally I prefer the more infinite and inexhaustible and objective “the universe provides”

We haven’t been seeing very many reversed cards lately, so it is probably worth a word about that part of it. Some people read a reversed card as its opposite, usually darker and more negative meaning. Reversed means the card is upside down relative to the person doing the reading. If you are watching from across the table it is upright for you. It is for exactly that reason that I seldom read much into the fact that a card is reversed. It depends on your perspective. I typically keep all facets of a card in mind, and just view the card as generally blocked or hampered or challenged when it turns reversed. In this case it seems very opposite-meaning because the card is about blockage in the first place. It’s like a double negative. Something that blocks blockage is something that allows flow.

Better Than You Might Think

Psychologists, holistic health professionals and Buddhists agree. Action Eases Anxiety – maybe better than you think. Simple mental and physical exercises can take the edge off of anxiety, which is more than typical day-to-day worry. Things like naming five things you see, taking a short walk, patterned breathing. I highly recommend @DanHarris and @jim_donovan_sound_health on instagam for more trustworthy real world anxiety advice.

This layout is inspired by Lenormand Tarot but works with any Tarot or Oracle Deck. The left card reads the current concern or the current energy environment. It may be a clue to what is the cause of your anxiety. The right card is a clue to the best thing to do next. It’s like a sentence; Subject and verb. It shows what the situation is and what to do about it.

WHAT’S GOING ON: Queen of Cups. This is deep emotion, perhaps something long suppressed bubbling to the surface. Emotion isn’t your enemy. Sit with it. Feel it fully, then move on knowing it doesn’t rule you or the reality around you.

BEST NEXT STEP: The Emperor. This signifies deep competence and real-world skill. Build your confidence. Head over heart. Let logic lead for a few steps to give emotions a chance to exist and heal and be understood without letting them rule you. You are in charge here and probably doing much better than you may think. It’s nice outside

THE OUTSIDER: If you ever don’t feel social, don’t push yourself. Sometimes being on the outside is exactly where you want – or need – to be.

Nothing about being a human is 100% defined 100% of the time. Seldom are things clearly black or white. Most of the time life is a million shades of grey and all the more beautiful for it.

Taking a little time alone doesn’t make you a hard-core introvert. Going out doesn’t mean you are a forever extrovert. Self-care means doing what you need in the moment to be as mentally, emotionally and physically healthy as you can be and keep it that way.

Taking a step outside is a shift in perspective, be it literally outdoors or a step away from the usual social group for an evening or a weekend. Things don’t look so large in your mind when you put them in a big-picture perspective.

The saying “Not my circus, not my monkeys” comes to mind. This isn’t the energy environment for drama. Step away and let the kids work it out among themselves. If it isn’t your issue, don’t engage with the fireworks.

Have a clear idea about what you want is half the battle in making it happen

THE SUMMER MOTHER: Immerse yourself in the moment. Creating a moment of contentment is no less a work of art than any other. It is sculpting in time and space to make something special for yourself and those around you.

We talk a lot about “being in the moment” but what does that really feel like? How do we actually DO that?

You drop.

Drop something. Think about that physical act of letting go. I don’t mean the kind of drops or something accidentally getting knocked out of your hand. Think about dropping coins in a donation box or an envelope into a mailbox.

That kind of dropping.

Drop thoughts of the future, just for a minute. Then drop the past. All that is left is now.

The moment is what it is. If vinegar tastes sour, smile for all is as it should be. If honey tastes sweet, smile all the more because it is delicious.

Wishing all of you a sweet weekend filled with delicious moments.

The Squirrel Rave This Week (30 March 25)

Hi everyone!

I don’t know what the squirrels have planned, but here is what I’m aiming for this week:

I’ve been putting off making an “introduction” video for my ko-fi page for ages. If all goes as planned, instead of the usual “choose your card” for the week ahead, I’d like to video and upload an intro video welcome message for the ko-fi page that ALSO introduces the new layout.

Inspired by the Taijitu (the name of the famous yin-yang symbol) I wrote the “TaoCraft Taijitu” layout to show three key things for the short term path ahead.

The first card is the Yin card, that symbolizes the energies that are growing in influence or are being drawn into your life. The manifesting / attracting energy is like the black part of the symbol. The growing influence part is like the white dot in the black side of the symbol.

The second card is the Yang card, showing the energies that are or need to be pushed away. That is outward pushing is like the white part of the symbol. The shrinking influence of this energy is like the black dot in the middle of the white field.

The third card puts it all together to show the movement. This card can show the best way to move forward in balance and harmony during the short-term path ahead.

Stay tuned this week to see a video of this new layout in action.

If all goes very well, I hope to post a Wednesday “action decreases anxiety” reading plus a Thursday or Friday “Weekend Oracle” if the squirrels behave.

Happy Sunday – see you at the next sip!
