THE LOST KING: This Normal Tarot card (deck by Seven Dane Asmund of  @publishinggoblin1072  used with permission) wraps together elements of the Hanged Man, Death (reversed) and 8 of cups tarot cards.

Not only do I love the gold foil on black with skeletons aesthetic of this deck, each card seems to masterfully weave together multiple Tarot ideas with a modern sensibility. It is like getting an entire “action eases anxiety” layout in a single card.

In this case, the King element reminds us we are in charge of our inner world. This reminds us we are our own leader, decision maker and high priest(ess) The upside down image, the Hanged Man element, hints at something blocked, turbulent of being resisted. The thing being resisted is change, which connects this card draw to the death-card-change energy that has been appearing in multiple readings lately. There is also an element of 8 of Cups energy that advises some sort of letting go or walking away, which also entails big, sometimes frightening, sometimes much resisted change.

If this reading resonates with you today, let’s put it into the “action eases anxiety” layout model. The energy here is one of taking charge of your own decisions and actions. Change is happening, soon to happen, or much needed but delayed. Any of those scenarios can cause fear or worry. The action that can help is to face the changes, make deliberate (albeit painful) choices. Make the changes you know are the right ones for you. Difficult emotions and consequences of your choices may come, but a better path may well come right along with it.

Thanks again for reading. The next couple of weeks are going to be more squirrel-rave-ish than usual, so I’m not sure when it will be, but I definitely will see you at the next sip!

You Choose Tarot Card of the Week: Change and Mystery

Private readings, memberships and virtual coffee gifts on Ko-Fi support this no-paywall, free Tarot blog. Your follows, likes, and shares are always appreciated!

Choose your card.

Before or after the reveal, before or after reading the card’s message below. However you choose it is your choice, your instincts, your message. Take both. Reject both. It is still your own good intuition leading the way.

Death: You no doubt already know the Death card is never literal, but symbolizes change. Big change. It means the crossed-the-Rubican, no way back type of change. When that happens, and it does happen to everyone one way or another, only you can say if the change is for the better. Chance at a new life or fate worse than death: It’s up to you.

High Priestess: No one knows everything. Predictions aren’t real. There is real healing and personal power in becoming comfortable with not knowing. To paraphrase Martin Luther King Jr. – “‘[Courage] is taking the first step even when you can’t see the whole staircase.”

Together these bring to mind a social media meme that feels very true to me “Religion is for people trying to stay out of hell but spirituality for those who have already been there.”

Thanks for reading! See you at the next sip!

Week Ahead Tarot: Strength and Change

Pause the video if you want some time to ponder your card. Restart for the reveal then read your card below. Or look at both cards and choose which one calls to you. Or look at the cards, read both interpretations, then choose which one fits you the best. It’s all equally valid. In the end it is still your intuition and your discretion that chooses which message – or none – that matters.

With two major arcana cards showing, this week might pack more emotion or energy in the next few days than we’ve seen for a while. We are on the downhill side of the dog days of summer, and stagnant energies may start to stir a little bit. I ‘hear’ (meaning intuition that come as mental words instead of mental images) “changes comes with a change in the weather”

STRENGTH: The more you do it, the easier it gets. Strength builds over time. It gets easy. Once it seems easy – let it. Don’t make easy things seem hard all over again just because they are important. You’ve earned the easy

DEATH: The difference between the change signified by the death card and the cyclic changes signified by the moon or the wheel cards is that it is one and done, final, irretrievable. This change is a fire that burns the old to ashes that are best left to be blown away in the wind.

Weekend Oracle: Progress

Sage Sips is tarot for your day in the time it takes to sip your coffee

My private readings by email are a bargain, and who doesn’t need that in this economy? The way I write them, a five card layout tells you the exact same things I would say to you in an hour (ish) live or in-person session. You get that plus my 30 years of Tarot experience for what other psychics charge for 15-30 minutes. Order yours on my ko-fi page

“Changes and progress very rarely are gifts from above. They come out of struggles from below.”

Noam Chomsky

Even though it is a long holiday weekend here in the US, it may feel like a continuation of the week with all of the travels and get-togethers and summer kick-offs and whatnot.

Maybe it is because of rumors of a new covid strain just as the vaccine program is being sabotaged. To be honest, this might be a projection on my part, but I think a little bit holds true for the collective energies as well.

It doesn’t feel peaceful. It feels like we are being thrown into dynamic, change-filled energy. Again.

One keyword for the Eight of Wands is “progress.” Progress is impossible with out change, without movement. Progress in any direction is still progress.

If you are moving toward failure, great! At least there is something to be learned.

If you are moving away from failure, great! At least you’ve learned from the situation and are making corrections.

If you are moving toward something better, great! Savor the moment.

If you are not moving much at all, great! At least you are getting a chance to rest and recharge. Enjoy it.

Change is a part of life and living. There is always the potential for progress.

The blog will be quiet over the holiday weekend and any reading orders will go out May 27, 2025 or after. Have a happy and safe weekend everyone! See you at the next sip!

Some years have a recycled, ‘lather, rinse, repeat’ feel about them just like 2021 & 2022 energy felt like a continuation of 2020. 2025 is not one of those kinds of years.

The advantage to reading for multiple other people, or a daily meditation practice for yourself is seeing larger patterns emerge over a period of time and across multiple readings. It is like a meta-reading that unfolds over the course of weeks instead of minutes.

One pattern I saw during the holiday into new year season was a message of progression through challenges and upheaval toward a “happy ending.” Almost all of the readings in the past few weeks have had a feeling of something good on the other side of whatever sh-tstorm comes our way in 2025. Intuitively, the energy came through as “happy endings,” the Avril Lavigne song “happy endings” and a sense of “2026.” In short, hang on, better things are on the other side.

Of course, things getting better means change. Change includes loss and grieving. Change includes letting go of bad things to make room for the good. Change includes the arrival of happy things, too.

2025 seems to be a year of change, and my goal for this year is to flow with that change as best as I can.

After all, that’s the Taoist approach. Time and time and time again, that philosophy has brought me enormous comfort in the most stressful times. I honor that. It’s right there in the name of this website, and hopefully, through the title of a book I hope to write: TaoCraft Tarot.

That’s the first change for 2025. This will be the first full year of TaoCraft 2.0, so to speak. “Sage Words Tarot” was heading toward all of the inauthentic ‘comply in advance’ fearfulness that led to adopting the TaoCraft name in place of “Modern Oracle” in the first darn place back in 2018.

Letting all the “Sage Words Tarot” stuff expire will save a little time and expense on my part, which in turn will help me keep prices steady for you.

The second change is that I’ll be focusing on email and pre-recorded video readings. If I’m honest with myself, that is the kind of reading that I do best. I write much more powerfully than I speak, and I speak with more impact when I can back up and edit. The end result is a superior quality reading for you, and a much more comfortable reading process for me. Steady prices, better process, best quality; it’s a win-win-win all around.

All of that being said, time flies when life is a squirrel rave.

They say re-introducing yourself and your services is a good idea, especially when you have a social media presence. Never did get all of the posts written that I wanted to do for a Fall refresh and re-introduction. Lesson learned. This is a once, at most twice per year thing.

This time around, I’ll condense it all into one post.

Things are already looking a little different.

It’s 9-9, September 9th. I read somewhere that 99 is a good fortune number in multiple different traditions. In numerology, someone wrote that it combines “inner wisdom and endings.” And naturally where there are endings, there are also beginnings. It would make sense that is why the Death card from the major arcana is actually symbolic of change.

Change is one thing you can count on.

Adaptability is a survival skill. Only dead things don’t change, which is kind of ironic given that the Death card from the major arcana is all about change.

The old you must cease to exist if the new you, your new life, can come into existence. Change is the only way anything can get better. Sure, it might get worse, too. That’s the chance you take with this crazy squirrel rave we call life.

Sometimes change means a heart rending good-bye to something you really, REALLY wanted. Other times, like this one, it means happily, gleefully, joyfully long-distance punting a stupid mistake into the stratosphere.

Sage Words Tarot was a relapse into masking and smoke-screening from the evangelicals and their ilk. No more. I won’t go back.

Returning to TaoCraft Tarot is an incantation, a spell to manifest a universe of safety where we can all be our authentic selves. I am reclaiming my time and my web name. My website is reverting to its original address and the Facebook page is set to change its name to reflect the blog “Sage Sips.” I’ve added a TaoCraft Tarot page back to Facebook too. That one might have a little bonus woo woo content on it.

But in any case, hi! I am Sage, and I write Sage Sips Blog on www.TaoCraftTarot.com

Keeping it low key while I’m keeping it simple. Here’s a little throwback card for our lazy, hazy summer Sunday afternoon.

Choose Your Card 10 June 2024

Private Readings by email / recorded video are OPEN, no appointment needed.

Three of Swords: The first step in healing a broken heart is acknowledging it exists. It’s ok not to be ok. You don’t have to be ok. You only need to be. Moment by moment, day by day it slowly gets better. Dharma Drum Mountain gives the best advice I’ve ever seen for dealing with heartache and problems.

  • Face it
  • Accept it (accept it is real, not that it is right – more on that later)
  • Deal with it
  • Let it go

Nine of Pentacles: It’s a good place. It’s a good day. It’s OK to be OK. You don’t have to be broken. You don’t have to be overjoyed. You might be (or be on the road to being) one of the lucky ones. At the same time, you don’t have to be anyone else’s savior either. You only need to be. The good things around you will take care of the rest.

The Wheel of Fortune: Up or down, we are all riding the same wheel. As the wheel of life turns, your direction up or down depends on which way you look. Shift your perspective and you are suddenly moving toward instead of away from and vice versa.

Even with your choice, this is still a collective energy reading. You get to choose which card was for you, but the card’s message was still drawn from the larger, Zeitgeist, collective energy today.

Choosing to participate at all led you to the three descriptions together. If one of the other interpretations matches you better – that’s OK too!! The process still brought you to a message that resonates with you. That’s what really matters. Keep eyes and ears open and your right message will find you, one way or another.

Want a truly personalized, private, just-for-you reading? Email and recorded video readings are open now – no appointment needed, prices from $5 to $30 total cost, no hidden fees or per minute rates.

Email readings have a picture of your individual real-world card layout. Videos show your cards being drawn. No matter whether I type it or say it – you get the same reading and the same message. It makes no difference to the process if I say it to a mic, type it on a keyboard to tell you live on a phone call. The words are the same regardless of how the words get to you.
