Moonphase Tarot

In Carl Sagan’s Contact, and in Netflix’s Stranger things, there is the idea of a “piggyback” message embedded within another signal. Tarot works like that sometimes. If you read enough, then sometimes you see trends in the energies, patterns in flow, that can give a slow-unfolding message.

Or, maybe it’s just a case of the niggles, where an idea niggles at you until you write about it….maybe it’s a blogger thing, not just a Tarot thing. Either way…

I’ve been pondering the cards from The Past, The Pain and The Future post.

Every time I try to connect cards to a definite timeline, connect it to time at all, really. it doesn’t work. At least not very well.

Sometimes you need a second look at a layout or a second opinion about a layout. (Want an expert second opinion about a reading that you’ve done for yourself? I used to do that all the time at AllExperts back in the day. Free Tarot Q&A HERE)

Let’s revisit the cards from the last post.

The Four of cups still feels right as a fading energy. Not necessarily any connection to the past, or even fading into the past….but low influence, and something to maybe NOT do, something to perhaps avoid if you can. The energy of entrenchment and refusal still stands.

Since it’s Halloween and Day of the Dead weekend, let’s Frankenstein stitch in a card that has stepped forward as a repeating pattern for a while now: The Eight of Cups. It is all about letting go, moving on, walking away.

But walking away is never all there is.

It’s not enough.

Change is life. Setting boundaries, eliminating the toxic is essential – but incomplete, ineffective alone.

Nature abhors a vacuum. You can’t walk away from the old without creating something new, different, changed.

Fast or slow, big or little, subtle or dramatic; change accepts the death of the old and manifests something new. It’s inescapable. One step, one kilometer, 10 miles or half a galaxy – life, and change, takes us to a different and new place and time. The Magician tells us it is time. Now is the time for the magic to happen. Now is the time for the walking AND for the building.

This energy grows, but the next step is The Moon. It is our next step. It compels us forward. It is the new thing that the walking away inevitably creates.

The full moon is followed by the waning followed by the new followed by waxing followed by the full again, but in a new month, in a new constellation. Cycles are a natural part of life, and they are made of change.

Whatever it is that has been left behind, something new must take its place.

Alan Watts reminds us that we are “under no obligation to be the same person we were five minutes ago.” By virtue of existing, we are someone now.

As much as we’ve been encouraged to step away from what no longer serves us, doubly encourages to abandon that which harms us and as much as we’ve been reminded that we can change at will – the energy shifting. A new cycle is starting.

Internet creator Tank Tolman reminds us to “start where you stand.”

However far you have or haven’t moved, start where you stand right now. After walking away from the old, it becomes imperative to build the new – a new persona, a new way of doing things, a new phase of life. It is time to shift your attention away from the leaving and focus on the living. Dwelling on old hurts re-energizes them and calls them back to your heels. That’s not walking away. That’s not a new phase. That’s not stepping away. That’s not letting go.

It is said that you can only fill an empty cup. If you have gone to the trouble of emptying your cup, try not to fill it up with the same old tea. One full moon may look the same as the one just before, but it is in a slightly different spot against the background sky.

We’ve walked the away part. Now is a new phase. A building and creating one. The figure on the Eight of Cups doesn’t look back. They look forward. They look toward the new.

So can you.
